She is referring to the apology given by the government to the native Americans and her response in her lyrics. She stated that the appology came out in December and she didn’t hear anything about it until September. Layli felt the apology was very poetic and written really well, but it didn’t really say much or look much like an appology. In order for the appology to actually be meaningful and genuine it has to have the right tone and attitude about it, and this appology did not. The day the appology was read the White House did not have any sort of celebration and she states that the White House celebrated all the time.
Long Soldier feels like the way that the appology was phrased was not an actual appology. They said a lot of nice, kind words, but it didn’t mean a lot to the people the appology was meant for. The purpose of the apology was to be genuine and emphatetic about what happened and the speech did not do that so it failed. It is so important for a paper or speech to have good word choice because if not the message the paper or speech is trying to tell will not come through.
It is also important for them to be specific in the podcast. In the apology they last specificity and because of this the speech did not suceed. The apology never really stated exactly what the government was sorry for, just a bunch of nice things about the natives. The natives were looking for a direct apology and they didn’t get it. In our papers it is important to be specific because if you leave things too general, you can miss the opportunity to fully grasp your topic and answer your research question.
The structure of this interview is a pretty long, specific question followed by a long response. The tone is pretty calm and just like a conversation between two people, it doesn’t seemed forced or awkward. It is important to use this idea of a conversation interview for my research paper, because if the interview seems too forced I might not get the answers I am looking for. Also, it is important for me to ask questions where the person I am interviewing will give me more than a one work answer.
