Heyoon was a club for a select few, who would have to be initiated in. Once initiated, the “members” would do rebellious things like drink, smoke, and hookup. Heyoon is special for Alex because it is where he had his first kiss and drank all the time with his friends. There reason the club is so secret and sacred is because only a few people have actually figured out how to get there.
Time and place are important in this episode because almost every event that happens in the story happens or relates back to Heyoon. Also, the way that Heyoon talks about the time period helps us understand a timeline of everything going on as well as an understanding of the ages of the characters.
Personal narratives are focused on telling a story while a research paper is about giving as much information about a topic as you can without boring the reader to death. Heyoon is a really good example of a narrative because of how it has characters, events, and time periods. Research papers on the other hand are full of statistical quotes and opinions. The structure of both papers is every different.
The Englishes I use in my writing a lot depend on what I am doing. For example, if I am writing a text I use broken English, but if I am writing an email to a teacher I try to sound like I know what I am talking about more and tend to stream from broken English. I also change my Englishes based on what kind of paper I am writing. If I am writing a narrative I use more story telling language and watered-down language but with a research paper I try to sound as smart as possible and use bigger words.
Amy describes simple, broken, watered down, complicated, and easy to ready Englishes. She talks about how she uses very different languages depending on who she is talking to. For example, the way she talks to her mother is going to be different than the way she is talking to her husband. Also, she said that the medium of what she is writing determines what she uses. For example, if she is preforming a speech she is going to sound different than if she is writing a paper.
